Who specifies the application criteria for the programmes

Each department specifies the application criteria for their programmes.


What is the role of the Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM) in the application process?

IAM only checks the validity of the online loaded documents and their compliance with the criteria determined by the departments.


Who evaluates the applications and decide to accept or reject the applicants?

Related department evaluates the applications and decides to accept or reject the applicants.


When is it announced that the departments have the admission for graduate programmes or not, in the related semester?

It is generally announced on the web sites of IAM; however, you may regularly check the Academic Calendar of METU.


How many students will be accepted to the programme I have applied for?

Each department decides the number of admissions according to the capacity of the programme, number of applicants and so on in the evaluation process. Thus the number can change each semester; it is not pre-determined.


In the programme I will apply/have applied, how many courses should I take? Is there evening courses for the working applicants, what is the fee of the programme? So on and so forth.

All information about the details of the programmes are provided on Curricula. There are no evening courses; however, we have many students who are also working.


What is the date of METU-EPE, how can I have information about that exam?

The date of METU-EPE is generally announced on the Academic Calendar of METU. Besides, you should be able to reach the date and the details of METU-EPE on http://www.dbe.metu.edu.tr/prf/. Or, you may also check http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/en/english-proficiency.


I have graduated from a school where the language of education is English, in Turkey/ foreign country, should I still submit English proficiency exam score?

All the applicants should submit a valid English proficiency exam result. Only the foreign students from the English speaking countries (the official language of the country should be English), on condition that they are graduated from a school where the language of education is also English, are exempt from submitting an English proficiency exam result.


The grading system of the school that I was graduated is different. How can I convert my CPGA to your system?

You should use the conversion table in http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/4-luk-sistemi-100-luk-sisteme-donusturme.


I have not received ALES/GRE/GMAT exam yet or I have taken the exam but the results are not announced yet, can I submit the exam score after the application period?

Applications with missing exam scores within the application period are not accepted and evaluated.


I have not received English Proficiency Exam yet or I have taken the exam but the results are not announced yet, can I submit the exam score after the application period?

Applications with missing exam scores within the application period are not accepted and evaluated.


Are YDS scores valid for English Proficiency?

YDS exam scores are not valid and accepted for graduate admission. Accepted exam scores are the ones of METU-EPE, TOEFL IBT, and IELTS.


Who are exempt from the application fee?

The applicants who are registered to a graduate/undergraduate programme in any university in the application semester are exempt from the application fee.


If one or more of the required documents is missing in the application period, is there a possibility of conditional application?

Conditional application is not possible for any native applicants. Only foreign students who do not have GRE scores can make conditional application, provided that they should fulfill some requirements in their first semester in the programme they register.


Can I get back the application fee?

The applicants whose application is not evaluated due to a missing criteria or document and the applicants who want to withdraw their application within the application period can get their application fee back. Those applicants should apply to IAM with Payment Refund Application Form (Ödeme İadesi Başvuru Formu) on page Forms of IAM or on http://oidb.metu.edu.tr/formlar.


Can I apply to more than one programme for the same semester?

You can apply to more than one programme for the same semester. You should submit the required documents separately and pay application fee for each programme you apply.


Can I register to more than one graduate programme?

You cannot register to more than one graduate programme with thesis option. You may contact to the secretary in charge.


Can I make revisions on the on-line application form after I freeze it?

You cannot make any additions or revisions on the online application form after freezing. Thus, you should re-check the form and be sure that the information you have added is correct and complete before you freeze the form.


To whom or where should I apply for the problems that I have faced with while filling the on-line application form? For example, when the system does not accept my password, or the school/programme that I have graduated does not exist in the list.

You may contact to the secretary in charge. We will act according to your requests as soon as possible.


Does IAM have a template for MSc or PhD theses? Where can I download the latest template?

Yes, IAM has its own template, but only LaTeX. On the page Regulations @ IAM, under Thesis Preparations, you may download the latest version of the template (with an example).


Does IAM have a Microsoft Word (LibreOffice or OpenOffice) template for MSc or PhD theses?
