Continuous Optimization Working Group of EURO (EUROPT) is a working group whose objective is to promote original research in the field of continuous optimization at the European level. EUROPT is the unique European working group on continuous optimization. It is one of the largest working groups of EURO with more than 1200 members from more than 70 countries. It includes most of European researchers working on continuous optimization. Continuous optimization includes linear programming, convex optimization, global optimization.
EUROPT was established in the year of 2000 in Budapest, Hungary.
EUROPT has given a strong contribution to research areas such as Data Mining and Financial Mathematics, and conducted close working relations with other optimization groups such as POP (Pacific Optimization Research Activity Group) and SIAM Activity Group on Optimization. EUROPT played a major role in the establishment of other EURO Working Groups, especially, EWG on OR for Development and EWG OR in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Medicine.
At EURO and IFORS conferences, EUROPT served with many streams, and EUROPT organized Workshops, Summer Institutes and EURO Mini Conferences in Europe and in all over the world. Since the foundation, EUROPT gained an excellent reputation.
For more than 15 years, Institute of Applied Mathematics of METU has supported and facilitated the work of EUROPT as an organizational headquarter, in terms of database, homepage, election processes, design and preparation of certificates for annual EUROPT Fellows.
