J. Notes and Explanations
 a) The UDS and KPDS English Language exams are not recognized as English proficiency exams by METU.
- METU-English Proficiency scores are valid for those who have been a master or doctorate student in METU for at least one semester within the last 4 semesters and readmitted to the same or another master or doctorate programs at METU. However, since TOEFL score has been raised from 192 to 213, the previously taken TOEFL scores should be minimum 213. If the test taken is METU-EPE, photocopy of the result document is not required. It is sufficient to enter candidate application number.
- The English Proficiency test Equivalence table recognized by the METU for graduate and undergraduate students is given below.
English Proficiency Tests Equivalence Table
|TOEFL IBT||TOEFL CBT||TOEFL OLD||IELTS|
 a) The following decisions have been taken by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) as the General Meeting Decisions;
- In the application to graduate program, only the GRE- quantitative scores should be taken into consideration.
The equivalency of GRE- quantitative scores to ALES is accepted as: GRE-quant.-713 = ALES-quant.-75 and GRE-quant.-731 = ALES-quant.-80
- Those students who have dropped out of a graduate study from any department and been readmitted to the same or different graduate program, or those who have completed one graduate program and been accepted to another graduate program (on condition that only one semester of break has been given the most) are not required to take the LES/ALES exam again. (General Council Metting dated 17.12.2004)
The ALES-GRE Equivalance Table prepared by the GSNAS based on LES equivalent GRE values as concluded by the Higher Education Council
These scores are approximate values. The weighted scores in ALES and GRE points (mean scores and standard deviation values) may differ every year.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants are required to submit the exam results that they have obtained or currently hold with their application. ALES conversion may be performed by the departments if it is required.
